Strawberry or Inverted Triangle Body Shape
Strawberry / Inverted Triangle
Your body most closely fits a strawberry shape if your shoulders and bust are prominently wider than your hips.
Create balance by giving your lower body some visual density. You can easily do this by wearing solid-coloured tops paired with bottoms in a bold color or print. Keep details, embellishments, or anything that creates volume to the lower half of your body and keep the top half clean and uncluttered.
LOOK FOR:
- Silhouettes that bisect you at your smallest part (underneath the bust)
- Empire-cut dresses and tops that highlight your ample chest and create volume at the hips.
- Voluminous skirts and wide-leg pants that make your lower half seem wider and slim down your shoulders
AVOID:
- Necklines that make your shoulders wider like boat, halter-neck, off-shoulder and shawl collars
- Sleeve styles that accentuate the shoulders like puff sleeves, ruffle and embellishments on the shoulders
- Patterns on the neck or shoulders; scarves around the neck
- Narrowing hemlines like pencil skirts and skinny jeans
STYLES THAT LOOK GOOD ON YOU:
Dresses - A-line style, empire cut, or fit and flare dresses that fit closely at the top and flow away from the body toward the bottom work best for strawberry-shaped bodies.
Tops - Deep scoop or V-necked tops with nipped-in waists that flare slightly at the hip will add much-wanted curves to your hips. Flowy tunics, A-line silhouettes in plain, solid colours draw attention to the lower part of the body.
Trousers - Any style that adds volume and accentuates the bottom and leg line will create balance to the top part of the body will look great on strawberry-shaped bodies. Styles such as baggy trousers, palazzo, flares, culottes, cargos and wide leg pants are very flattering. Look for bottom pieces with embellishments, pockets, pattern and print.
Jeans - Straight cut jeans, flared, bootcut and wide leg styles will create visual balance. Coloured jeans and jeans with detailing around the hip and thigh area such as rips, whiskering, embellishments, and big back pockets also complement this shape.
Skirts - The A-line style is your friend as are full, ballerina type skirts that add curves to your lower half. If you have great legs, feel free to play with length. Bold colours and prints, pleats, tiered or layer skirts also create balance.
Outerwear - Look for jackets with deep V-necklines, a nipped-in waist and a flared fuller hemline that hit at the hip or upper thigh. Details such as hip pockets or frills at the hemline are also great.
